The Hillside Learning and Behavior Center is located at 212 Grove Street in Allegan.  The Hillside Center consists of classroom programs to educate students who are severely physically and/or cognitively impaired.

Four Severely Multiply Impaired classrooms provide programming to students 2 ½ to 26 years of age.  A portion of this group of students who are in wheelchairs work very hard with Physical and Occupational Therapy activities to improve/maintain their quality of life.  In addition emphasis is placed on communication and assistive technology.

Four classrooms serve students who have severe cognitive impairments ages 8 to 26 years.  These students work very hard on functional skills such as dressing, preparing food, counting money and community behavior.   In addition, there are two young adult programs, one located in Plainwell and one in Wayland, which serves students 18 to 26.  Heavy emphasis is placed on community/vocational based instruction and integration.

Two classrooms are for students 5 to 15 that have severe autistic characteristics.  These students work on academic skills, sensory needs, functional skills as well as community integration.

Our Early Childhood Developmentally Delayed classroom serves little ones 2 ½ to 7 years of age.  These children work very hard at kindergarten readiness skills in hopes of being integrated back into their local school districts.

The Food Service program and the Different by Design papermaking program provides students with an opportunity to experience vocational tasks that can be transferred to actual jobs in the community.

With all the unique needs each student presents it is necessary to provide various therapies to encourage development and a successful education.  Nurse, Speech Therapists, Occupational and Physical Therapists, Psychologist, Aquatic Instructor, Music Therapist, Technology Specialist and various specialized Teacher Consultants join forces with the parents to plan and provide a free and appropriate public education for each child.
