Allegan Area Educational Service Agency Board Approves Plan with Lake Michigan College PDF Print E-mail

In an effort to provide a postsecondary education program to residents of Allegan County and professional training opportunities for the local workforce, the Allegan Area Educational Service Agency Board of Education (AAESA) voted at its September meeting to approve in principle an agreement with Lake Michigan College (LMC).

The partnership, known as the Allegan Educational Postsecondary Partnership – Efficiency Campus Model (AEPP-EC), establishes a K-16 education delivery structure to provide a seamless postsecondary presence in Allegan County.

“Allegan County leaders approached Lake Michigan College because they recognize the need to offer advanced educational and training opportunities to their residents and know of our experience with dual enrollment and workforce training programs,” explained LMC President Dr. Randall R. Miller.

AAESA Recognized As One Of The Safest In The State PDF Print E-mail

The Allegan Area Educational Service Agency (AAESA) Board of Education has been recognized and presented the Workers’ Compensation Safe School Award from the SEG Self-Insurer Workers’ Compensation Fund.

The prestigious award was presented by SET SEG Account Executive Scott Hagan at AAESA’s August Board Meeting in recognition of the district’s exemplary safety record.

The AAESA has been a member of the Fund since 1986. The award distinguishes and recognizes the Educational Service Agency (ESA) as one of the safest districts in the State of Michigan. The AAESA was awarded the honor for demonstrating a strong commitment to risk management and safety practices, and successfully and consistently achieving a low incidence of workers’ compensation claims.

 “We are proud to be recognized as one of the safest workplaces in the state,” stated Mark Dobias, AAESA Superintendent.

The Outlook Strict Discipline Academy Receives $220,000 Grant PDF Print E-mail

The Allegan Area Education Service Agency (AAESA) Board of Education was pleased to hear that the Outlook Academy received a Dissemination Grant from the Michigan Department of Education.  The grant is for two years, with the first year budget of $120,237, and the second year is expected to be around $100,000.

The purpose of the grant two-fold. The first part is an “evaluation” piece.  Information will be gathered to measure Outlook’s success at student achievement, behavior, self regulation and social skills, academic and non academic performance of students when they return to their home school, and increased teacher sensitivity and responsiveness to students needs and behaviors.  The Outlook Academy will partner with the Southwest Michigan Children’s Trauma Assessment Center and The Evaluation Center at Western Michigan University.

PAC Holds Fifth Annual Awards Celebration on May 7th PDF Print E-mail
The fifth Annual Parent Advisory Committee(PAC) Awards were celebrated on Wednesday, May 7th, at 6:30 pm at the new Otsego High School Auditorium.

The Parent Choice Awards were created to both increase awareness and understanding for the many children with special needs and their families in our county, and to recognize those individuals (teachers, bus drivers, parent volunteers, librarians, administrators, etc) who have gone above and beyond to serve the Allegan County special education population.

The PAC is a committee of parents of children with special needs and school educators, representing local districts and Hillside Center, working with the Allegan Area Educational Service Agency (AAESA) special education staff to focus on and serve the needs of special education children in our county.

Allegan County Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Receives Community Foundation Grants PDF Print E-mail

The boards of both the Allegan County United Way (ACUW) and Allegan Area Education Service Agency (AAESA) were pleased to receive notification of the awarding of two grants for the Imagination Library program from the Allegan County Community Foundation (ACCF).

The Allegan County Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a joint program of both the ACUW and AAESA. The mission of the program is to provide high quality books to all Allegan County families with children from birth to five years of age. The program received the ACCF 2008 Legacy Grant for $5,000, and the ACCF 2008 TAG (Teens Aiding Growth) Grant for $2,000. 

“The process of learning to read starts long before kindergarten”, shares Denise Van Dyken, AAESA Director of Early Childhood and co-chair of the program.  “The experiences children have between birth and school entry will have a profound effect upon their ability to acquire literacy efficiently and effectively.”
