Allegan - At the November 20, 2006, Board of Education meeting, the Allegan Area Education Service Agency (AAESA) Board of Education approved the new contract agreement with the Educational Staff Association of Allegan Intermediate (ESAAI). This agreement covers all AAESA employees who are ESAAI members.
“The contract negotiations were conducted in a very professional manner by both organizations”, stated Ron Fuller, AAESA Superintendent. “I appreciate the willingness of both parties to come prepared and to keep what is best for children as the central focus of negotiations.” Importantly, this contract is a three year contract covering 2006-2009, and includes: A 1% wage scale increase, plus step and seniority increase, for both the support staff and professional staff with wage and salary increases retroactive to July 1, 2006, Changes in health insurance coverage resulting in a reduction in premium costs without a reduction in coverage, and An agreed upon school calendar of 187 days for 2006-07 School Year. “The negotiations were very positive”, shared Phyllis Drozd, AAESA Board President. “The AAESA team believes that we have made some fair decisions that benefit both parties and most importantly, all our kids.” The contract agreement also indicates that the negotiations on the re-opener items of salary and wage schedules, insurance benefits and calendar for the second and third years will start no later than April 1, 2007 and April 1, 2008.
