Otsego Dix Street Student Wins 2007 AAESA "Keep Kids In School" Poster Contest PDF Print E-mail

Hannah Flagg, 5th Grader at Dix Street Elementary, is the 2007 “Keep Kids In Schools” Poster Contest Winner. This contest is sponsored by Meijer Corporation and the Allegan Area Educational Services Agency. 

Hannah’s artwork was selected from over 200 entries by elementary school students from around Allegan County. Prizes were given to the top five winners. Hannah’s artwork was made into a poster that will be sent out and displayed in stores, schools and other public places to promote the importance of school attendance as a major predictor of success in school and in life. 

Image Along with a certificate that was presented at the May 17th AAESA Board Meeting, Hannah will receive a $100 US Savings Bond, gift certificates from a local bookstore, and her poster displayed around the county.

This program is financially sponsored by both Meijer Corporation and the Allegan Area Educational Service Agency. Present at the AAESA Board presentation by President Phyllis Drozd were

Bob Mastenbrook, Meijer Corporation Security Team Coordinator, Hannah’s family, Dix Street Art Teacher, Vicki Salvatori, and Dix Street Principal, Tim Allard.  
 
Other winners included: Marlene Jaimes (First Runner-up/ Fennville Anna Michen Elementary), Chelsea Robinson (Second Runner-up/Martin Brandon Elementary), Daniel Martinez (Third Runner-up/Fennville Anna Michen Elementary), and Pedro Mendozo (Fourth Runner-up/Fennville Anna Michen Elementary). These winners will received a framed certificate, bookstore certificates and $50 US Savings Bonds.
 
“This program has been growing every year since we started it in 2004”, sates Greg Sieracki, AAESA Truancy Officer. “Our goal is to be proactive in helping parents and teachers keep kids in school by starting early to promote school attendance. The positive impact of school attendance on school achievement and life success is huge!”
