The AAESA and Michigan Works! Are Growing to Better Serve the Allegan County Business Community PDF Print E-mail

The Allegan Area Technical & Education Center (ACATEC) and Allegan County Michigan Works! (both programs of the AAESA) are launching the new Academic Services Unit with the goal of expanding present partnerships and developing new partnerships with Allegan County local school districts, private schools, businesses, communities and regional colleges and universities to develop seamless career development and life-long learning opportunities. This growth will result in new, expanded and customized educational and training opportunities that will replace the current concept of Adult Education Course offerings presently being offered in Allegan County.

The purpose of the Academic Services Unit is to create an environment that fosters and supports economic development in the private sector by providing customized training and re-training for existing employees and displaced workers; career development for all learners; and other seamless career development and educational opportunities to provide easy access to life-long learning for community residents and local businesses’ current and future employees.

With this training being offered through ACATEC and regional colleges and universities, the instructional opportunities (i.e. class, courses, workshops, seminars, etc.) will be funded by tuition assessed per participant per experience. Further, the tuition can be paid by the participant or their sponsoring business or agency.  At the same time, other funding sources will be sought and could include: 1) grant funds which qualify to pay for eligible training or re-training of employees or displaced workers; 2) employer paid training;  3) school district paid training,  and 4)  career development activities for fee-based services (i.e. testing, planning, etc.). The goal is to be innovative and creative in finding and securing funding to ensure that all residents, students and employees who desire the opportunity to learn and grow will be able to do so!

For more information about the new Academic Services Unit, contact George P. Stamas, Unit Manager, at Allegan County Michigan Works! Service Center (269.673. 3121).
