Over the last year, Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Michigan has been introduced to new federal requirements for higher levels of rigor and relevance in all programming. The new wave of CTE students will be challenged to meet business and industry standards in attitude, attendance, personal presentation and work ethic in addition to their mastery of the traditionally required technical skills. The ACATEC has responded by retooling or upgrading its programming for 2007-08. We have instituted a comprehensive Student Achievement program to address academic and work skill issues and a Student Leadership Program to underscore the importance of employability and leadership skills.
One of the biggest changes will be in the delivery system of our curriculum. New trimester scheduling will allow us to offer your students a sequence of courses that leads them along a Program of Study that includes the opportunity for on-the-job experience each year they attend the center. A significant investment is being made to expand programming so all students can enroll in their first choice class. In 2007 alone, we are investing over a million dollars in state of the art equipment and facility improvements. In addition we are adding new occupational training in Cosmetology, Medical Assisting, Early Childhood, Emergency Dispatch, Global Information Systems, Information Technology, Auto Sales and Print Production. Currently, for the first trimester 2006-07, 654 students are attending the Tech & Ed Center, an increase of 14 % in total students for this first trimester. |
