At the September 20, 2007 Allegan County Area Educational Service Agency (AAESA) Board Meeting, the board approved the promotion of Dr. Alice Woodrow, Ed.D, currently the Supervisor of Planning and Monitoring, to become the new Director of Special Education at the AAESA in January, 2008. Dr. Woodrow will be replacing the retiring Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Wally Gunderson, who also directed all of the AAESA Special Education Services.
Alice Woodrow Before coming to Allegan County as the AAESA Supervisor of Planning and Monitoring, Dr. Woodrow was a special education teacher in the Kalamazoo Public Schools and the Comstock Public Schools in Kalamazoo County. She became the Supervisor of Special Education in the Comstock Public Schools in April, 2003. She received her Doctorate Degree in Special Education Administration from Western Michigan University in April, 2003. In addition to administration, her doctoral research and study focused on effective programming for students with emotional impairments. She lives in Richland, Michigan with her husband, Rob Woodrow, who is the assistant principal at Gull Lake High School and her 1 year old son, Parker. Alice devotes the remaining hours of the day to her son and husband at home, but when she does get a few extra minutes to herself she enjoys running, road biking, and swimming. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue programming partnerships already established between departments at the AAESA and strengthening collaborations and services being provided to the local districts on Allegan County,” shared Dr. Woodrow.
