AAESA Board Accepts Wally Gunderson's Retirement PDF Print E-mail

The Allegan Area Education Service Agency (AAESA)  Board of Education accepted the resignation of Wally Gunderson, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional & Educational Services and long-time Special Education Director, at their monthly meeting on September 20, 2007.

Gunderson arrived at the AAESA , then called the ACISD,  in 1994 to become the Director of Special Education Programs. In 2000, he was promoted to his current position of Assistant Superintendent of Instructional & Educational Services.  His responsibilities included the development and maintaining of all general education and special education programs and services for all eight local districts and charter schools in Allegan County.

“I have enjoyed my experience here in Allegan County”, stated Gunderson. He will continue as a consultant for a period of time to support the new Director of Special Education, Dr. Alice Woodrow.

Gunderson has a long and successful career in public education in the State of Michigan. A graduate of Central Michigan University, he began his career  as a teacher in a Title I School in 1973, and also held the position of Teacher of Emotionally Handicapped and Learning Disabled, Supervisor of Special Education Programs, and Director of Special Education Programs, Consortium for Exceptional Children in South Eastern Lapeer County.

A retirement reception has been planned at THE SILO (GRILLE HOUSE) at 1071 32nd Street, Allegan for Gunderson on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. All of those who would like to congratulate Wally and wish him well are welcome to attend.
