PAC Holds Fifth Annual Awards Celebration on May 7th PDF Print E-mail
The fifth Annual Parent Advisory Committee(PAC) Awards were celebrated on Wednesday, May 7th, at 6:30 pm at the new Otsego High School Auditorium.

The Parent Choice Awards were created to both increase awareness and understanding for the many children with special needs and their families in our county, and to recognize those individuals (teachers, bus drivers, parent volunteers, librarians, administrators, etc) who have gone above and beyond to serve the Allegan County special education population.

The PAC is a committee of parents of children with special needs and school educators, representing local districts and Hillside Center, working with the Allegan Area Educational Service Agency (AAESA) special education staff to focus on and serve the needs of special education children in our county.

The PAC Awards are presented based on the PAC evaluation of submitted nominations from across the county. All of the over 50-75 yearly nominees were recognized at the event.  Winners received a PAC Parent Choice Awards Plaque.  Selected exceptional students from each district and Hillside were also recognized.

"The event was attended by almost 300 people," explains Trish Lewis, PAC Member and 2008 Awards Chairperson. "It is exciting to be able to honor those stepping up for the children with special needs in our county!"

The event itself is a huge project and a celebration. Everyone in the county is invited to attend. The theme this year was "You never stand so tall as when you bend down to help a child."

"For some special education students, their educational team is their sole source of encouragement and stability," explains Dr. Alice Woodrow, AAESA Special Education Director. "The PAC Parent Choice Awards are a special time to thank these people on behalf of the parents and AAESA".
