Criminal Background Check
The State of Michigan “School Safety” legislation, sections 1230 and 1230a of the Revised School Code (amended by PA 129 and PA 138) states that school districts are required to perform a criminal history check for all school employees, substitutes and individuals that are assigned to regularly and continuously work under contract in any school. The Allegan Area Education Service Agency (AAESA) will require all new employees to undergo a criminal history record check. The individual is required to have their criminal history record check done via a Live Scan system in accordance with MCL 380.1230a & MCL 380.1230g.
This law requires school employees to self-report if they are arraigned or charged with reportable offenses as defined in the legislation. The employee is required to communicate charges to the Superintendent within 3 business days.
