The Virtual Academy of Allegan County (VAAC) is being designed in a collaborative effort among local, participating school districts to provide a 100% online educational option for students and families. It is important to note that this is vastly different from both a traditional in-person school experience and the spring 2020 emergency remote instruction. The VAAC provides online curriculum, interactive instruction and activities. There will be assessments, and students will earn actual grades and credits as part of staying connected to their local district. There are also required components of student participation and attendance as well as parental support and engagement.
To participate with VAAC, you must be enrolled at one of our partner districts (see the list to the right). Enrollment is completed through your local district. You will indicate to them that you would like to choose 100% virtual through the VAAC and they will add that to the student's information in their system. We will integrate with their system so there isn't a need to separately enroll with VAAC. Many families have already done this through a survey that was sent out from your district. If you have completed their survey, called or emailed, there is no need to do so again. If you selected 100% virtual with VAAC, and you have changed your mind, you can simply contact your school district and make sure they are informed of your final choice.
Our enrollment will close on 9/10 and we will be in touch soon after with more details. As you can imagine there are many, many moving parts and we're working hard to finalize systems and get going as quickly as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience.
Development Goals of VAAC
Goal #1: Provide a safe alternative school choice to students and families. Goal #2: Keep our students and families connected to their local school and community. Goal #3: Protect as many educational jobs within our county schools as possible.
