• The Great Start Collaborative of Allegan County is a collaboration of parents, care givers, educators, health care professionals, business and community leaders, who are working together to ensure that all children are safe, healthy, and eager and able to succeed in school and life.  New members are always welcome. Please feel free to contact us for more information.

    Our Vision and Mission
We provide a Great Start for every child in Allegan County by providing a coordinated system of community resources and support services to assist families in creating a safe, healthy and enriched environment for children, birth through age five.

    Our Values
     • Work with passion and dedication on behalf of our children.
     • Family-centered and empower all families.
     • Show respect for all community members.
     • Honor diversity and work to ensure equal opportunity for all.
     • Work toward the common good of all children in our community.
     • Operate with wisdom and creativity, to achieve excellence.
     • Create sustainability in our work.

    The Process
Allegan County's Great Start Collaborative and Great Start Family Coalition meetings are the cornerstones of our planning efforts.  Ongoing evaluation and updates to our annual Work Plan and initiatives are driven by (4) workgroup committees and strong partnerships within the community.  Workgroup committees ensure that Michigan Department of Education's (4) Early Childhood Outcomes are met within our community for all children. Important early childhood initiatives within Allegan County include care coordination service work through Help Me Grow Allegan, Safe Kids tips, access to developmental milestones and Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQs), Adverse Childhood Experience (ACEs) trainings, Handle With Care notification system, Talking is Teaching Play-and-Learns, Parents as Teachers (PAT) home visitation services, access to books through Little Free Libraries, and Parent Cafes.
