Camp Read-A-Lot

Teacher reading to student With the state of Michigan implementing the new 3rd Grade Reading Law for the 2019-2020 school year, Hopkins Public Schools has made many efforts to ensure that all students are reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade. The program that has proven to be the most beneficial so far is Camp Read-A-Lot. This program is run by Denise Cardenas, Hopkins reading teacher. Each day, Mrs. Cardenas meets with small groups of students who are below grade level in reading and works with their specific level/struggles. Starting in September of 2018, 76 students have attended Camp Read-A-Lot. Through lots of hard work and practice from both the kids and Mrs. Cardenas, this number has dropped by 32% as of February.
