Allegan Students Celebrate Arbor Day

girl with smokey the bear On Friday, March 3, Mrs. Chalupa and Mr. Ouellette’s fifth-grade classes from Allegan's Dawson Elementary attended the Arbor Day celebration at the Griswold Auditorium. Prior to Arbor Day, the Allegan Public Schools students participated in a poster contest in their art class with Mrs. Burnett. Riley Smith was the winner of this year’s contest with the theme “Bees and Trees.” She was honored at the ceremony with a laminated copy of her poster. Copies will also be hung in Allegan City Hall and Dawson Elementary. Riley led students in the Pledge of Allegiance with Smokey the Bear. The students received refreshments, a tree sapling, and helped to plant two trees at the District Library and Griswold Auditorium.

Pictured are Riley Smith and Smokey the Bear showing off Riley’s winning poster.
