Heading off to college for the first time can be a stressful situation, often compunded by trying to figure out how to pay for it. While there are many scholarships and grants available, it is important to be sure one is eligible for those funds. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a process to help qualify students for many aid programs. The Allegan Tech Center will be holding a free workshop on October 28 to help families fill out the FAFSA.
"The FAFSA is important for students and families because it allows student to become eligible for federal grants, government backed loans, as well as aid from Michigan specific programs," Said Jeana Steciow, Allegan Tech Center Counselor. "Michigan programs include the Michigan Competitive Scholarship and the Tuition Incentive Program (TIP). The FAFSA is also used by colleges and universities to determine how much financial assistance a student may need. Filing FAFSA allows students to be eligible for the maximum amount of funds."
The free workshop will take place at the Allegan tech Center from 5;00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28. Families will need to bring copies of their social security numbers, 2018 tax returns, and other financial records. For a full list see the graphic to the left or call Jeana Steciow at 269-512-7800.
