Story Walk

Family of four looking into store window Throughout March for Reading Month, the Plainwell Virtual Learning Academy K-5 (PVLA) had a variety of special reading activities. In the center of it all was "Harold and the Purple Crayon'', where the students took many virtual adventures with the purple crayon, through a series of videos created by the PVLA staff. The crayon made its way from their virtual Google Classroom to many destinations throughout Plainwell.

To end the month, the PVLA presented their "Harold and The Purple Crayon" Story Walk. Their story walk began at Island City Ink in Downtown Plainwell and continued through the town with different pages of the story which offered different activities for the students. Throughout their adventure, students were visited by different story characters: from Dog Man, to Pete the Cat, to Waldo, Ms. Frizzle and more, the students were guided throughout Plainwell by many storybook characters. The last two pages of the story were at the Ransom District Library, where the students were able to complete different activities and received books and prizes. The day was complete with a special visit from author Ms. Barbara Allen, who recently held a virtual visit with the PVLA students to share her book Remembering Great Grandma Sojourner Truth. It was an awesome adventure for the PVLA students and a great educational opportunity.

A very special thank you to the local businesses and Ransom District Library who helped make this adventure possible. We are so grateful for your support.
