Birth-Five Literacy Support Network Hub 4 Grant

Row of kids holding books near Santa ClausAllegan County's Great Start Collaborative was awarded $60,000 for Michigan's HUB 4- Birth-Five Literacy Support Network. Becky Huberty and Stormie Drake, HUB 4 grant coordinators, were thrilled to give out books and educational resources to nonprofit agencies in the following counties this holiday season: Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Montcalm, Muskegon, and Oceana.

A total of seven Family “Read, Play, Learn” Stations with LaundryCares Foundation and five years of Scholastic Book Club subscriptions to sustain these literacy centers were donated. Additionally, $500 worth of Talking is Teaching materials (books, educational tools) were purchased for 27 agencies, as well as, $1,500 in books for Gun Lake Tribe to enhance their early childhood literacy outcomes.
