AAESA Receives Positive Financial Audit

On November 20, 2018, the independent auditors of Maner Costerisan, hired by Allegan Area Educational Service Agency (AAESA), presented to the Board of Education the financial report for the year ended June 30, 2018. The auditor’s report indicated that the District received an Unmodified Opinion, the highest level of assurance, that the District’s financial reporting are materially accurate. The financial health of the District is stable which allows the District to continue to provide the necessary services to their students, and support the local districts within Allegan County. For the year ended June 30, 2018, AAESA was able to provide approximately $6.9 million dollars to the local school districts to help support their operations.

With the uncertainty with local, state and federal funding, stretching every available dollar to the maximum ability is more important today than ever before. This is accomplished through the District’s budgeting process. The budgets provide a road map on how the money received by AAESA will be spent throughout the year. AAESA was able to stay within the budgeted expenses and was able to come in better than what was anticipated.

As part of the audit process, the auditor’s review the District’s internal control process over financial reporting, and at times, may make recommendations to help improve those procedures. For the year ended June 30, 2018, there were no recommendations for improvements.

AAESA continues to strive to find ways to improve the educational experience of its students and support of its local school districts. With the sound leadership provided by the District’s superintendent, school administrators, Board of Education, and financial advice from the business office, the District is in a sound financial position to meet those educational needs in the future.
