Phyllis Drozd of Allegan served on the Allegan Area ESA Board of Education for 48 years. She passed away on February 14, 2024 at age 91.
Mrs. Drozd started on the board of Foster #4, Trowbridge Township in 1963. That school later became part of Allegan Public Schools. She joined the Allegan Area ESA board, then called the Allegan County Intermediate School District, in 1965 and served continuously until her retirement in 2013. She served as the board president from 1977 to 2013. She was also the former President of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of School Boards. One of the defining moments of Mrs. Drozd’s years on the board was her championing of the construction of the Allegan Area Tech Center in 1988.
During her tenure, Mrs. Drozd was very active in advocating for the children and schools of Allegan County on both the state and national level. Under her leadership, Allegan Area ESA continually refined its role in providing services to the local districts. She set a standard for selfless service that few will ever match.
