March is Reading Month, a time dedicated to celebrating the joy and importance of reading. To mark the occasion, students from the Transition Center, alongside paraeducator, Crystal Boddy, visited the young adult classroom at Hillside Learning Center for a special interactive story time. “I am so incredibly proud of our students,” said Boddy. “They did an amazing job engaging with their peers, leading activities, and making the story come to life. Seeing their confidence grow and the joy they brought to the classroom was truly heartwarming.”

The group engaged students with two books: Bear Snores On and The Legend of Sleepy Bear. While the stories were read aloud, other students enhanced the experience by using an interactive sound machine and stuffed bears to bring key moments to life. The visit concluded with a sensory game, allowing every student the opportunity to participate, connect, and enjoy the shared reading experience. Smiles filled the room as students bonded through storytelling.

Reading Month is more than just a celebration of books—it’s about fostering literacy, connection, and engagement. The visit between the Transition Center and Hillside Learning Center exemplified the power of storytelling to bring students together, encourage communication, and build meaningful relationships. The collaboration between the two programs not only reinforced the value of reading but also highlighted the importance of inclusion and shared experiences in education.

Through interactive activities and teamwork, the students demonstrated that reading is not just about words on a page—it’s about connection, creativity, and community.
