On Wednesday, May 15, Hillside Learning Center hosted a heartfelt dedication ceremony to celebrate its designation as an Exemplar School by MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) International. The event took place under the bus awning at Hillside, where students, staff, families, and community members gathered to honor the life-changing impact of the MOVE program.

Students using a variety of mobility equipment, including gait trainers and standers, proudly participated in the celebration — a visible and moving reminder of the freedom and confidence the program promotes.

The event recognized Hillside’s five-year journey with MOVE International, a curriculum designed to increase independent mobility for students with significant physical disabilities. In October, Hillside was evaluated for its implementation of MOVE and was officially designated as an Exemplar School in November.

“This celebration was a beautiful reflection of what’s possible when we lead with inclusion and high expectations,” said Superintendent William Brown of Allegan Area ESA. “It was especially meaningful to see students in motion — smiling, engaging, and fully part of the moment. That’s what MOVE is all about.”

The dedication ceremony featured remarks from school leaders, a personal story from Superintendent Brown, and expressions of gratitude from families and staff. The entire community joined in celebrating not just a designation — but the real, everyday victories made possible by MOVE.
