ALLEGAN, MI – At its June meeting, the Allegan Area Educational Service Agency (AAESA) Board of Education proudly re-elected Board President Larry Collier to a new six-year term. In addition, the Board named Stephanie Calhoun to fill the vacancy created by a recent departure, further strengthening its commitment to excellence in governance and community leadership.
A long-standing champion for public education, Larry Collier has served on the AAESA Board since 2003 and has held the position of Board President for several terms. In his re-election remarks, Collier emphasized the Board’s mission to ensure a high-quality education for all students across Allegan County.
“I have lived in parts of the world where students have very limited educational opportunities,” Collier stated, reaffirming his belief in equal access to quality education.
His leadership, documented and praised by the AAESA community, underscores his deep-rooted commitment to local schools and regional educational initiatives.
The Board also selected Stephanie Calhoun, President and CEO of the Allegan County Community Foundation, to fill the recent open seat on the board. Calhoun brings extensive leadership experience in community development and youth advocacy, including outreach in public school programs.
Her appointment reflects a strategic move to bolster community representation on the Board and to enhance collaboration with local stakeholders.
Under the continued leadership of President Collier and the fresh perspective of Calhoun, the AAESA Board is well-positioned to carry forward its initiatives focused on student success, educational equity, and collaborative community engagement.
They are expected to hit the ground running during their first official meeting together, focusing on:
• Strengthening district-wide educational strategies
• Expanding access to innovative student programs
• Fostering partnerships between schools, families, and local organizations
